Helene Swaap’s focus in photography is on light and on seeing the beauty in ordinary things. With this light she composes pictures as if they have been painted. As a young girl, her interest in photography took of with creating collages of pictures she collected from glossy magazines. Her interest has always been in people and in styling literaly everything that surround her -rooms, walls, tables- even complete houses. After finishing her study Dutch Literature in Leiden, she started traveling as a KLM fly attendant. During these years she bought her first camera and her passion for photography was born. In 2004 she started at the KABK (The Royal Academy of Art) in The Hague to professionalize her photography. Since 2012 she works as an allround photographer: making portraits of people with natural light and still life’s with her special exposure, where the art of composition and lighting come together.
